January 12th - Inquiry MeetingWelcome to our third Inquiry meeting as we continue our journey looking at Hands-On; Active Learning.
1. We watched a humorous clip that underscores how Children enjoy hands-on learning from a young age. How they also use technology. The focus of today is hands-on learning with the use of technology. 2. Activity: We each received a printout of an animal on our back. We then had to walk around the room and ask yes or no questions only to determine what the animal was. You only get 5 questions, then have to move to another person to ask. (Can be used as ice-breaker, review, etc). -Can be done just with course words, vocab, terms. Grade 2 all the way to Grade 12. |

3. TADL Low-Prep / High Prep Sheet. A resource to put near your desk or at a work space if you want to think about alternative ways to assess/teach. Divided into things that are low-prep, quick to do, or higher prep.

4. Share out Activity - each person will share an example of something they've done (activity/lesson/assignment/ that is hands-on or active learning. Our goal is to see each other as a valuable resource for ideas! We shared many of the passions we are working on from Non-Permanent Vertical surfaces, to Passion projects and a whole lot more! See left for a photo of Katie's math polyhedron! (The file is attached below)
5. Special Guest - Trevor Knowlton from SD67 Careers will show us some cool hands-on / active /technology stuff from SD67. Trevor showed us many interesting things from Lock Box scavenger hunts, to google cardboard, to the SD67 maker carts, robotics, and many resources available. I will also highlight an out of this world link that he has been working on called SD67 Space school: www.SpaceSchool.ca |

6. Activity - A/B partners. One will sit, one will go. You have two mins to discuss something you could use, modify or can see incorporating into your practice. One partner get up and move to another chair and share, and each seated partner will get a new partner.
