Wednesday, Nov 27th - Nov 29th
1. Hand out the Mythology people search and get them to complete it in pairs. First pair done correctly can have a prize. It is like Mythology Bingo!
2. Hand out allusions to mythology package and get students to pick out 2-3 interesting ones to them. Go around the room and get them to share an example. Tell them they each must share a different one, so that was why they picked out 2-3, to make sure an allusion wasn’t repeated.
3. Fill out the Mythology Overview notes with them on the overhead (Key attached) The notes are on the back of the people search.
4. Handout “In Context” textbooks (on back shelf) and turn to page 154 and read “backgrounder” the Greek creation myth with them. Then, show them how to retell the myth in words and pictures (I have left my example, start with them and then let them do their own). Tell them that they need to retell the whole story (key details) in words and pictures.
-We did this as a class with a chart drawn by Mr. Fitton. No electronic copy.
5. Have them pick a creation myth and complete the same task (using words and pictures, capture the main 10 events of the story). Then, find 2 similarities between the myth (theirs and the Greek one) and one difference.
-The goal here is to learn to summarize, paraphrase and convey an idea clearly both visually and verbally.
6. We concluded class by watching a review of Greek Creation myths from the TV show "Horrible Histories." Please see below.
7. Thursday will be spent reading and writing our creation myth representation.
