HISTORY THROUGH FILM
Welcome to History Through Film! This is a great companion course to History 12. We will hone our discussion skills as we investigate the power of media in our journey to come to a greater understanding of 20th Century History. We will start the course by watching either 100 years of history in 10 mins, or the 100 most iconic movie lines of all time - as a way to segue into a discussion about the power of cinema and why we devote a course to it
Video 1 - show top 10. Or up to 20. Students must say how many they knew; which one is the most powerful.
Video 2 - What is most powerful
Video 3 - Most Iconic Lines from Cinema - How many do you know; what is your favourite. Share out.

7. As a class, students designed a rubric using the 6 point scale detailing how to get specific grades in the class for the discussion component of the course. We sat in a circle and designed the following criteria very democratically. Mr. Fitton will place this self-evaluation form on a handout and students will at times be asked to grade themselves and write a reflection using examples for why they deserve their score. Students will also highlight on the rubric and write a goal for how they will improve for the next discussion.
STUDENT DEVELOPED CRITERIA (TO BE REVISITED PART WAY THROUGH THE COURSE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE SATISFIED)

7. Please note, students will also be required to get a permission slip signed by parents indicating that they may end up watching films with some content that may not be suitable for all viewers. At any time, students and parents may choose not to have their students view a particular film or particular scenes in films that they do not agree with.
