China - Upturned Bottle, Dead Deer
China from 1900-1989
|
This series of lessons is meant to familiarize students with China from 1900-1989 with an additional field trip to soak up some Chinese culture at the local buffet once we've finished the lecture!
1. We are connecting the history we learn from the past with events that occur today. This unit is on the transformation of China from an embattled nation crumbling under Japanese expansion to the economic powerhouse that it has become today. So we will watch a youtube video on Donald Trump and his obsession with China. -why would Mr. Fitton start the unit with this (shows the significance of China when a presidential candidate mentions it; what else?) 2. Students will view "Crash Course in History - China!" for homework. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUCEeC4f6ts Students must fill in the blanks on the rear of the 11 X 17 sheet. Mr. Fitton has a lecture that he will deliver on a unit Matrix that goes over the same info. Thus, students will be prepared to ask questions. Students must come up with 5 solid questions to ask while Mr. Fitton is lecturing. |

3. Mr. Fitton has created a matrix drawing of the entire unit on China. Mr. Fitton will lecture to the content while students fill in the blanks and discuss the information. It is available below. On day 1, Mr. Fitton will do half of the matrix and we will watch half of crash course in class as well. Quiz next day.
-Mr. Fitton has given each student a blank 11 1/2 X 17 inch paper. He has also given each student the matrix seen in the video, but it is cut up into sections. Students must glue the puzzle together properly. We will not glue until a section is over on the video. This will give us time to ask questions and go over the material. Also, it is less distracting to look at when the matrix is cut into manageable chunks. 4. Play Mr. Fitton's Video explaining the Matrix. The video is on youtube and available to the left.
